Cultural Producer Nykieria Chaney 2026.jpg

Nykieria Chaney is an interdisciplinary American artist working across theater, photography, and public humanities to interrogate cultural memory and reframe Black presence in American civic life. Her practice bridges performance, visual documentation, and archival inquiry to widen narrative frameworks and preserve cultural complexity.

As a playwright and director, Chaney stages historical subjects through a contemporary lens, as in her production "The Chairman," which examines Chairman Fred Hampton's legacy within the broader context of civil rights movements and state power. Her dramaturgy positions theater as a site of embodied cultural transmission and political reckoning.

Beyond the stage, Chaney hosts Black Art Is Lit, a podcast amplifying Black authors through curated readings and contextual commentary. By foregrounding first chapters and entry points, the podcast functions as both a pedagogical space and a public humanities platform, reinforcing the centrality of Black voices in literary discourse.

As a Getty Images editorial photographer, Chaney documents live performances, cultural gatherings, and public moments with an emphasis on nuance and context. Her images intervene in historical patterns of representation, contributing to the visual archive of Black artistic expression and serving as records of cultural production in real time.

Informed by questions of narrative authority, framing, and collective memory, Chaney's interdisciplinary work asserts storytelling as both an artistic practice and an ethical responsibility. Based in Georgia, she develops projects that bridge mediums and communities, reflecting a commitment to art as a mode of record-keeping, inquiry, and cultural preservation.

Story

My work sits at the intersection of educational entertainment, cultural storytelling, live production, and editorial journalism.

I design and produce immersive programming for institutions, brands, and communities who understand that storytelling is infrastructure.

From stage productions and curriculum-based theatre to documentary photography licensed globally, the through line is clarity, context, and cultural responsibility.

If you’re seeking original programming, immersive events, or institutionally aligned creative partnerships for 2026 and beyond, I’m open to conversations.
